​​A Small Act

Every small act that we do will create a big difference.
Every small act that we do will create a big change.
Every small act that we do will give hope to our Mother Earth.

Water is one of the most important element in the lives of a human being. It is needed for the survival of humans, creatures including animals and plants. Also, it covers mostly our planet, Earth. One of the reasons why we continue to live is because of the presence of water in our environment. But what is happening right now? Why is there a need for water when it’s the most abundant element in our surroundings?

Last Monday, October 3, 2016, we, the Environmental Education Elective Class, checked our water footprint with the following questions about our daily activities such as – “Do you wash your car daily?” “Are you a vegetarian/vegan/ or meat eater?” “How many times you wash your clothes?” With the following questions, it is a small activity for us human beings, but little did we know how this greatly affect in conserving water. When we answered the following questions, we are asked to screenshot or reply on the discussion of our water footprint that represents our daily use of water. Seeing the replies and screenshots of my classmates, we can infer that there is an abuse when it comes to the consumption of water. Us, human are ignorant to how much water we can waste just for our satisfaction. Humans are selfish for they care only for their daily needs and wants in life. It’s unfortunate because despite of the numerous programs in our school such as SINOP, ClayGo, and Waste Segregation, each and every one of us is ignorant when it comes to the state of the environment. I am sure that everyone is aware of what’s happening with Mother Earth given that we have many environment projects but we are just so busy with other school activities, work, etc. Another activity we is the Climate Change Activity wherein we acted as presidents and made policies. With the game we played, I think that it is hard to balance thinking about the betterment of the country and the betterment of the environment. We need to adjust in order to have a good country while saving the earth. 

With this, the actions that we do really matter. We need to start right now and stop being ignorant and selfish. If we want to help save our home, we have to start with ourselves. Let's not depend with everything else because in the end, no one will ever help you. You just have to start and take part in saving our environment. Today is the time. Not tomorrow, not next year, but today. We have to and we must start, because one thing I am sure about is that
