Do you know your purpose in life? I, too ask the same question often and still, I am in the search for finding the answer. Sometimes we get lost looking for the answer while we don’t recognize it’s already in front of us waiting to be acknowledged. We often make our lives too complicated when we’re the only ones making it worse. Maybe we can consider the environment our responsibility. Maybe this is why we’re created, to be the change our environment needs to save it from its nearing end. As hard as it is to accept the fact that Climate Change is occurring, we can tell from numerous natural phenomena that it obviously is, unstoppable. However, some remain ignorant and oblivious to this issue which greatly increases more the chance of our world being completely damaged. We are sadly not aware that our simple decisions could change our future which makes us do incautious and careless actions toward nature. These actions are the main reasons why Pollution is worsening the current condition of our planet.
Water is one resource we are undeniably taking for granted since we see it in school, at home or wherever. It may seem unlimited to us but it is actually scarce in some other places like Africa, Qatar, Lebanon and Libya. We have this mentality of not caring unless we experience it first-hand but in this case, do we really want to experience this kind of issue which will make our lives miserable? For a moment let’s ask ourselves how we will survive a world without water. As harsh as it may sound, but we won’t. We cannot survive a world without water and yet we waste it because we are selfish human beings. We often desire the lavish, luxurious life which makes us want unnecessary things consuming vital resources. Some spend their lives as if the world was made for them alone and not realizing that we all deserve a world with various resources because this creation was made by God for all of us, even people to be born several years from now. We do not realize that we are given the privilege to domain this planet because God knew that we are capable of nurturing and sustaining all its resources and not the other way around. We should have a greater sense of responsibility due to the knowledge we have which we will use in constructing means on how to respond to the daily changes in mother earth
I am honestly guilty for being ignorant at times whenever I desire for a more comfortable life not thinking that what I have is enough. It is more than enough actually compared to the lives of people living in worse situations. This egocentrism was even more highlighted as we conducted a water footprint activity in our Environmental Education class wherein it was showed that I consumed roughly 2500 gallons every day while my household consumed an average of 15 000 gallons every day. It is hard to believe that while we consume gallons of water every single day, there are some who find it very hard to even have a drop of water for them to use. Now that I know the amount of water I consume daily, I’ve set rules for myself in order to respond responsibly to the rising issue of water scarcity around the world. I will try my best to lessen my consumption of meat which shockingly affects my water consumption greatly. Also, I will try to bring my own reusable containers as often as possible to lessen waste products such as plastics which harm the environment in several ways. Now with my community, I will segregate waste products and try my very best to lessen them. Also, I know that I have to control wherever I will put these wastes after I’m done with them because it will do great damage if I place it on improper places. With this, I believe that the activity truly was eye opening not only to me but also to my other classmates because many of us may really be unaware of our huge consumption of water.
Moreover, as I tried to be a very influential president of my own country, I realized how hard it is to implement new policies for many must be taken into consideration such as the approval of the majority, its effect on the environment and its effect on the economy. I realized how truly hard it is to balance the economy and the environment at the same time. This activity gave me new ideas on how to work on the worsening environment we are all experiencing and how we can possibly involve our community in saving Mother Nature. I realized that we must all work for the betterment of our environment because working one by one might be a slow progress for the fast changing world of ours. This may be a huge work but it will be the greatest achievement we all will accomplish and I can just imagine the satisfaction in our faces once this is attained. It may take a long, long time but at least we can say that we did something to save this planet. We’ve done our responsibility as stewards of this planet to keep and preserve as much resources as we can with the little time we had. This is definitely one’s purpose for being placed in this kind of world. This is a purpose we are all secretly given and it is our task to work on once we’ve realized how crucial it actually is to be assigned with such a mission. We cannot remain deaf to the calling of Mother Nature and blind to the signs of destruction. This is our responsibility. This is why we are made. This is our purpose and it’s time to fulfill this purpose.

If you could offer a piece of advice on climate change action to anyone who was not involved in the simulation, what would you say? You mentioned some things that were important changes in your life, do you think these things are universal?
