Hello Taiwan-Philippines pairing!
As you already know from the wonderful posts shared by our co-mentor Albert, AHSofChungHsingTW-40, and Maria Teresa R. San Jose, our topic is Gender and Migration. When I first read this topic, as a analytical scientist, I was confused. But once I looked at it through a social science point of view, I realize this is an area of climate change that I personally have been neglecting, and cannot wait to explore it with everyone.
The first video I am sharing is from the UN Women Asia and the Pacific, and is titled “Climate Induced Migration: Can this be an opportunity for women’s empowerment?”
This video tells the story of women in Bangladesh whose husbands had to migrate outside of Bangladesh for work due to increased natural disasters and the inability to produce income in the traditional way (using natural resources such the land for agriculture). The migration of the male family member in search for work left the women to support themselves on the somewhat disaster-stricken land. Through self-reliance and perseverance, the women are able to work and make an income for themselves, which then is combined with the income from the men who have migrated for work due to climate change. In the face of disaster, the women of Bangladesh find a way to generate an income and better themselves and the lives of their families.

The second article I am going to share is from the same source that Maria Teresa R. San Jose shared the article: Gender and Migration in the Context of Climate Change. This article specifically target island communities as being labelled “climate refugees” without even knowing what that means. This article calls for less computerized models of the effects of climate change in these areas and more interaction on the ground with the communities in these areas. This article focuses on the opinion of the communities being hit by climate change impact, by asking the questions “what is your perception of climate change?”

Hello Britanny,
Thank you for appreciating the articles and references I posted about our topic on Gender and Migration. I have also watched the video and article you posted. These will be of help to our students (Philippines) to broaden their awareness on the issue. Please keep posting other interesting and informative articles and references.
