In our video, we were introduced to the idea of solar roadways. An eye catching new form of pavement that not only looks futuristic, but would be a large jump in modern technology. With it's LED light fixtures, it can display multiple beautiful designs, including common road lines. However, the idea wasn't just to provide a "Tron" like road. This project alone would provide thousands of jobs in manufacturing and we would save money as there would no longer be a need for the mass burning of fossil fuels, thus providing clean energy.
The roadways have channels also known as a cable corridor, it follows the roadway underground, and it can run electrical cables or filter, and contain rain water and melted snow. This contributes to a healthier environment as we would have cleaner soil and rivers. The special panels are also equipped with a self heating feature to melt snow and prevent ice build up. For Albertan's, we would find quite the luxury in year round clean roads.
I think the dream for a wide spread solar roadways is definitely in our grasp. The thought alone makes one think about how much more potential energy we could have, while still taking care of the environment.
