Our vision of a sustainable world includes controlling our release of green house gasses into the atmosphere. This would slow the melting of polar ice, slow ocean acidification, and prevent the shifting of jet streams. To do this we could find a way to not only prevent our accelerated release of the gases but also eliminate existing excess from the atmosphere. Think of the substance KOH (potassium hydroxide) that when exposed to carbon dioxide locks it up as a solid. This particular substance is extremely toxic to humans, but the premise is there, if we find a substance that can extract carbon dioxide (and other green house gasses) from the atmosphere, than we would have a better chance at controlling climate change.
