Bilateral Reflection

Environment   Oct 20, 2016 by stephanie zawaduk

During Canada and Brazil's Bilateral collaboration the students noticed striking differences in how climate change and water impact both our countries and are understood by the population. This was quite evident when we began discussing water; in Brazil water can shortages are common especially in São Paulo its largest city, whereas in Canada a water shortage especially in a city is incredibly rare. The Brazilians also went on to ask us if we used a waste water reclamation program in our water system. In Canada this is not a common practice as we are incredibly lucky to have an abundance of water in our river systems and are not pressured by population to do so, however as our population grows this is likely to change. In terms of knowledge of climate change in both countries the younger generations seem more aware of the issues at hand however in Canada it seems that a greater amount of the population is acutely aware of the issues at hand. I believe this can be accounted for by the large number of government initiatives undertaken in the past. Regardless of the differences between Canada and Brazil only together can we tackle this monumental issue.
