Reflection of Bilateral Collaboration conference

Oct 20, 2016 by Jatinder Kumar Saini

Dear Friends,

We, the students of the core team of yadavindra Public School, Patiala had an interesting interactive session with children from Pimlico State High School,Australia . It was an informative exchange in which both sides openly expressed their ideas and opinions . The participants shared their views on the global water crisis while emphasising on regional concerns !
The children of Australia shared that their government imposed heavy fines and came down heavily on people who did not follow the rules laid down regarding the water issue . We explained that there was a general consensus in taking the industrialists causing damage to task but the 'every day culprits '; the general public went scotfree in spite of their follies. We opined that all was not lost as in many parts of the country 'Rain water harvesting' was now compulsory. Media was also beginning to suitably encourage the public to play a more conscientious role.
Information about the recent death of the 25 million years old Great Barrier Reef was also exchanged! The children of Australia provided us with some hitherto less known facts that the coral reef was lost due to the close proximity of petroleum refineries .The problem was compounded with the increasing toxicity of sea water, resulting from oil spills. The tourism industry of Australia has already begun to feel the heat.
The Australian group was keenly interested in knowing about our varied climatic conditions, the diverse nature of seasons and the fight against natural calamities especially in the wake of the fact that ours is a highly populated 'still developing' country.
I must reiterate the fact that we really enjoyed the session and certainly look forward to having more of such bilateral exchanges.

Mehar Mangat- YPS, Patiala
