The Environmental Condition of Our Country

Environment   Oct 16, 2016 by Kanav Malhotra

While India has witnessed rapid economic growth in recent years, it has come at a cost. It has come at the cost of our environment, and undoubtedly, efforts are being made to ensure it's preservation for the upcoming generations.

The major problems faced by our states are improper utilisation of water resources, pollution through industries, i.e. industrial pollution, and deforestation, to name a few. Our country has been paying primary emphasis on crucial treaties in the past few decades, to work towards the improvement of living conditions for the public.

The state I live in, is initially an agricultural state, and makes extensive usage of water to meet its agricultural needs. We face a 25% rain deficiency in our state, and the improper water harvesting techniques further cause more problems. On a national level, we can still be deemed as quite safe, facing a comparatively less deficiency in rainfall (3%). The following video which has been linked, shows an Indian citizen displaying the efforts made for efficient reduction in water pollution.

Industrial pollution, which can be categorised under air pollution as a whole, is another concern for our people, as it has resulted in major problems for the citizens in the previous decades. A major factor contributing towards the betterment of this condition, is India signing the COP 21 agreement, and thus promising a 20% reduction in carbon emission by the year 2020. The southern states of our country, which are considered as the hubs of development and industries, need to work the most towards the improvement of the current situation.

The eastern states of India can be termed as most safe from man made environmental problems, but these states are prone to natural disasters like earthquakes, landslides, and floods, which hinders the development of the particular states.

To sum up, India is neither really advanced, nor facing a crisis when we talk about the environmental condition, and constant efforts are being made by the people of our country to work towards the holistic betterment of the nation.

Kanav,

You are right in pointing out that the threat is not just from industrial towns but even from agricultural pursuits gone wrong.

In the mad race to produce more, the farmers forget that the diminishing water and lowering of the level is a life threat.
