Having the time to journey with my fellow environmental classmates last October 1, 2016, was one of the moments that I will really do cherish, surprisingly. At first, I was having second thoughts whether I’d go or not because other than it is scheduled on a Saturday, I was sort of hoping that I could at least rest and catch my sleepless nights that day. But I believe that it was God who pushed me to go instead and plus I considered the fact that I will be able to catch the sunrise and it’s a beautiful day to take a quick shot of it. When I heard our Environmental Education professor, Ms. Reyes mention, “The Center for Ecozoic Living and Learning”, it actually rang a bell. Our Physics teacher, Mrs. Formalejo, already introduced this place to us way back grade 10 and addition to this, we also had an activity and lots of schoolwork regarding it. So as I mentioned a while ago, it rang a bell, and I never thought that I would be proud of myself because I have an idea on where we are going and also I somehow know each part like for instance, the zones of the place, since we discussed it with Mrs. Formalejo’s class, a lot.
What I learned from our physics class and environmental education outbound, the Center for Ecozoic Living and Learning aka CELL’s vision mission is to contribute to the great work, whereby humans learn to move from a stance of destroyer of the Earth Community to a stance that is mutually enhancing. Their goal as a society is to operate a spirituality center that will propagate the New Story of Creation as a means of altering the human to the current ecological and social crisis, and awaken in them a vision that will give a direction for action at the present moment in the history. From our journey last October 1, we were really exposed to nature and to an environment that is pollution free. With this, I have come to the realization that our issue regarding climate change can still be reduced. How? By exploring, learning, and understanding the principles of the CELL, we can actually adopt some very useful principles in order for us to lessen the climate change that we are actually experiencing right now. From my CELL experience, I was really feeling grateful that time to be still alive despite all the environmental issues we acquire in our everyday lives. Environmental issues we meet here in the Philippines are getting worse and people are becoming more ignorant as if they’re not part of the problem.
We now live in a modern and consumerist world – we consume way too much natural resources everyday, aside from that we consume a lot power, power that we use for our appliances, our heating, and for other public and household requirements. Sustainability here take into account how we might live in accordance with the natural world around us, protecting it from destruction. Sustainability acknowledges that human civilaztion consumes resources to maintain our modern way of life. Civilization had been one of the main contributors in which why our world is facing such tragedy. Sustainability aims to end the poverty and hunger present in the world, increase the quality of education and healthcare, particularly its water quality and better sanitation, improving environmental factors that harm people’s health, etc. With sustainability, we can acknowledge the concept of nature having certain rights and that we have stewardship of the world and the importance of putting people into action towards solving our global issues.
So, who are as a new generation? For me, we are the next soldiers assigned to protect our Mother Earth. We need to stop being ignorant and selfish and start doing our part for our home. We now live in a world full of technologies, and such tools should be used properly; it should serve its right purpose and not add up to the problem we are facing right now. We should stop playing around, wasting time, and start doing what is right instead. We are now facing serious problems that could actually be the cause of each and everyone’s death because this is no joke. These issues affect everyone. We are now reaching the darkest point in terms of our environmental crisis. Again, we need to act and do our part right now; let’s propose sustainable practices such as crop rotation, solar energy, wind energy, etc. So, who are we again as new generation? We are God’s soldiers, ready to salute for Mother Earth.
