It is not the Climate that needs change. (Charltone Juanico & Marianne Urbano)

Environment   Oct 8, 2016 by Charltone Rose A. Juanico

“Climate change is happening, humans are causing it, and I think this is perhaps the most serious environmental issue facing us.” - Bill Nye

Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time. Climate change may refer to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions. Commonly climate change is caused by factors such as biotic processes, solar radiation received by Earth, sometimes due to plate tectonics and volcanic eruptions. Human activities contributes to the causes of climate change, the irresponsible attitudes of humans and the lack of discipline among them is the main root why climate change is very evident nowadays.

Based on the responses, it clearly represents how our country is considering climate change as a major issue. This climate change has a great effect on how we take care of our environment and it clearly shows that as we try to improve our economy, we are not considering its effects on our environment. We only just think of ourselves and let others suffer the consequences of our mistakes. As we reflect on our actions through this survey, we realized that we should take action immediately in making our world a better and cleaner place to live in.

In our environmental education class, we were able to answer a national dialogue survey. In which students like us were able to share our local & national opinion on climate change. Through this survey, we saw that most of us have same perspectives and opinions about the effects and actions done for climate change, from own self, school, community and even to the bigger part of it which is the country..

The responses on the survey somehow correspond to the position of our country . In the results it shows that 60% of the respondents believed that climate change has affected them . While 20% of the respondents strongly agree that climate change affected them personally. This shows that climate change starts not only within a nation but it starts from the very personal point of a country. Also in the result it shows that climate change doesn’t only affect people personally but it actually affects the country’s economy. The responses on the survey it shows that 52% of the respondents opinion believe that it strongly agree that climate change also affects the country’s economy. But the good side of this is that the country is giving attention to it and the respondents also agree with this. Philippines is conducting earth hours and some cities promotes zero plastic.

This survey activity and its results somehow made us happy since it shows that respondents in our nation cares and aware of the situation about climate change unlike other countries that they don’t even give importance to the issue about climate change and don’t believe that it’s actually existing. Its sad see that some countries can’t see that the place they are living now is slowly coming to the point of destruction mode. But we believe that a change must not only start within a nation it actually starts from the one who is doing and using which is us. We must put action now and being one of the youths we should voice out our thoughts and inspire other people even the ones older than us to put action to it and be aware of it, it’s not something to disregard because we might not know that in just one snap all of these will be gone.

To end this I’ll quote one of Al Gore’s, “We have arrived at a moment of decision. Our home-Earth-is in danger. What is at risk of being destroyed is not the planet itself, of course, but the conditions that have made it hospitable for human beings.”
