Nicola, Townsville, Australia, My Carbon Footprint

Environment   Sep 10, 2020 by Nicola Perry

I used the International Student Challenge Carbon Footprint Challenge to calculate my carbon footprint in 50 questions. My results are below, and I found I was below the average Australian in my carbon footprint. Before the quiz I predicted that I was going to be below average as my family never uses air-conditioning in the cold months and only around 4 months or less in the hot months. This accounts to a large part of carbon use in most peoples answers, so it was a large factor in reducing mine. Purchases was by far my lowest category with 238 kg, compared to the 1,027 kg average in my region. Our family always tries to recycle and compost. I believe my results are very good especially compared to my region however there is always room for improvement, and we haven't calculated our schools carbon footprint yet.

We noticed the same pattern. The use of heat/air conditioning in your house really determines how big your carbon footprint is.
