This is my first year of official decarbonizing. My family has constantly recycled to help decarbonize. However, there are many other things that we do that can be changed to help prevent carbon releasing. Now, I will continue to try to improve our habits to contribute to decarbonization.
I try not to waste energy. Turning off the lights when I leave a room is one of them. My family tries to stay in one or two rooms so that we do not have to turn on lots of lights. This can not only save electricity bills for a family, but also benefits our environment. However, I never knew that the kind of lightbulbs my family used would affect the amount of greenhouse gasses that were released. Switching to energy-saving LED bulbs can save energy. Of course, doing just this isn’t enough to make a huge change in the world.
Transportation is a challenging problem because people in the United States usually drive to travel. There are very few choices for public transportation in suburbs. Many students ride school buses to and from school. Other traveling is usually done by car since most people own them. I hope that we will have more of a variety of public transportation to help decarbonize in the future.
To my suprise, what we eat can increase our carbon footprint. Meat products have a larger carbon footprint than any other food products. With that being proved by science, we should decrease the amount of meat we eat. We eat both vegetables and meat but we eat slightly less vegetables. I hope that I can help balance our diet efficiently this school year. Consuming a balanced diet can also improve your body since it can grow healthier.
It is definitely hard to decarbonize because releasing carbon dioxide is extremely easy. Simply recycling energy, like using solar panels, is also essential. I hope that working with everybody around the world can help prevent some of the greenhouse gasses being released into the atmosphere.
