Victoria, Calgary, Canada, my carbon footprint

Oct 17, 2020 by Victoria

For my carbon footprint I would need 4 earths. I think one of the reasons my carbon footprint is high is because I live in Canada where the winters are really cold and you have to heat your house for 4 months of the year. My house doesn't have air conditioning and my family does try to do our best to help the environment by recycling and my dad drives a hybrid electric car. Most of the food my family eats is from other countries, mainly America and Italy, I try to grow my own food in my backyard but the growing season is so short where I live you can't grow much.

Hi Victoria,

I visited Calgary in December last year,so I understand how cold it can get how you need to use heating systems often. It was interesting to hear that you have such  a short period of time to grow crops. I didn't know that. I hope to hear more from you soon!

Hi Victoria!

Yes that would make it diffucult. Although your heater may not be able to be reduced, there are multiple other ways to reduce your emissions, such as, turning all fans, heaters and lights off before you leave the house, walking, riding, etc, to your destinations as much as possible. Very cool to see you are growing your own food! Good Luck :)

What food have you tried growing before? What type of heating system do you use? Do you have a fireplace? It is awesome that you're family is trying to help the environment  :)

Yes I agree with you because houses are the largest carbon footprint that I have found out as well when I did the calculator for the carbon footprint. I agree with the idea of growing a vegetable garden because it will lower the amount of carbon footprint and it is also tasty.
