Kiruthika, Townsville, Carbon Footprint

This is a image about my carbon footprint after completing the test.

I have always expected my carbon footprint to be high and was shocked when I realised I was way below average in Australia. My lifestyle is like majority of my peers and consumes a lot of electricity. In my household, I try my best to turn lights and fans and other electric devices off, however sometimes there might be other things to do or I might be in a rush and I end up forgetting to turn some things off. I live with my 4 family members and we try our best to have minimal negative contribution to the environment.

I live in a two story house and due it being summer, the air cons and fans are nearly always on. This carbon footprint was results from a month ago and if I redo it now, my carbon footprint will be heavily higher and this would be because of the climate of Townsville. We experience very hot summers and moderately cool winters. I think that me and my family dont use fans and air cons during winter, however lights are used more due to the sun setting earlier and the microwave and stove and oven is used more in order to warm up food more. However, in order to reduce usage of electricity, I have gotten Solar Panels without batteries and the Stove and Oven and Grill is all Gas powered.

When talking about food usage and wastage in my household, we do not waste much food due to us having a compost bin. We put all our food scraps in a compost bin and sometimes use it as fertilizer. We also recycle materials such as glas bottles and yoghurt containers.

I use a car as transportation to school and sometimes I ride my bike to school, however due to the heat of North Queensland, it can get very tiering.

Overall, through these things, I am quiet shocked about the minimal impact my carbon footprint has compared to the average of Australia.
