Taylor, Townsville, Australia: My Carbon Footprint

Environment   Sep 17, 2020 by Taylor Doyle

The carbon footprint calculated shows that Australia has one of the highest carbon producers (22-25 tons) which represents power, control and wealth over other countries such as the Marshall Islands (2.4 tons). There is access to clean water and electricity at the switch of a button therefore allowing more usage of the resources. Since Australia is a very developed country and large resources are available such as air conditioners and heaters. The Marshall Islands are part of the lower countries due to the size and population of the Islands; and small amounts of resources available (unless imported) which decrease the amount of carbon footprint. Since Townsville is a middle-class society multiple resources readily available therefore it will be taken for granted due to the easy access, unlike Tonga a lower -class society. Tonga lives a low carbon life due to the small population and uneasy access to resources such as air conditioners and heaters. New strategies to reduce the carbon footprint discovered as pushed to change average daily lives because some strategies are simple and easy to conduct every day. Realizations such as not having a healthy future or a future at all is scary, and the fact that we are killing the earth that we need is sad. It’s clear to see that younger voices need to be heard because it is our future that is at stake.  It’s confusing on how people don’t listen or don’t care about the future, as most of them believe that they will be gone by the time the earth dies, but for most of us that’s our future. We will still be here to deal with the repercussions of the choices made by the government now.
