Hey Carolina, your video was very entertaining to watch and is very informative about issues in our world currently. Although trawling is legal in Australia still, there are many restrictions that are in place to make this terrible activity very difficult. I had already thought that trawling was illegal but after researching the topic I found that is wasn't! I hope that it is banned soon here too.

Hi Carolina!
I love your video! Its very informative and you sound so passionate about this issue in our world. Unfortunately trawling is in fact legal in Australia but it comes with many restrictions. I really hope, like you, that this horrible activity is banned as it is ruining so many ecosystems and species globally.

Hey Carolina, I'm also really excited to be a part of this project, it’s my first time doing it. I'm 15 and in Grade 10. Deep-water trawl fishing is not banned in Australia however, it is highly restricted. The legislation in Australia restricts, operating time, boat size, gear, location and catch limits. The Government also requires commercial fishers to report information about their fishing activities in a compulsory daily logbook. All trawl fishers must contribute data about their day's catch, the location fished, the apparatus used and any interactions with species of conservation interest. Fisheries uses this data to assess and monitor the status of individual species and fisheries. My opinion on this issue is; I have no issue currently as long as the practice is thoroughly monitored to avoid the negative environmental impacts it creates, such as bycatch. There are better ways of fishing that have fewer environmental impacts but we must consider the livelihoods of deep-water trawlers and phase out the practice over time rather than ban it in one day.
