Jean Hinchliffe is a 15-year old climate activist from Sydney, Australia, campaigns for legislative action against the sourcing and usage of fossil fuels, along with pushing for Australia to become fully carbon neutral.

Fossil fuel burning is a huge contributor to climate change, as so many countries use it every day to function. There are other options that don’t hurt the environment, such as renewable energy however, burning fossil fuels is the most convenient. The USA, Russia, China, Iran and Canada are the top 5 users of fossil fuels. While the entire planet is impacted greatly by climate change, some places feel it worse than others. Many have experienced extreme weather events such as cyclones, earthquakes heavy rains and heat waves. Here in Australia, we have had floods, bushfires and droughts. Japan is the most threatened country in the world by climate change as of 2018, weather events were behind 1,282 deaths. In the Philippines, Typhoon Mangkhut's passage in 2018 affected more than 250,000 people across the country, and in Germany the heat wave it suffered in 2018, caused damages of more than 3,500 million dollars for the agricultural sector.

In order to right our wrongs and protect the environment, everyone needs to change and work on solving the issue of climate change together. Morally, it is everyone’s responsibility as inhibitors of the planet. To help move towards climate justice those could follow Jean Hinchliffe’s lead and advocate for important climate issues as well as spread information and educate others.
