After completing the survey and completing the carbon footprint calculator, I was shocked to see that I was above the average Australian. Overall, based on my input my total carbon footprint is 12,132Kgs of CO2 per year. To make this number a lot smaller, I know that I can improve on the ‘home’ and ‘food’ categories which are 5,138kgs and 3,248kgs per year. Ways I know I can improve this could be trying to eat local products and to use less unnecessary electricity at home. Compared to regional data for these categories, my family and I are not doing so well to reduce our carbon footprints. Another thing my family and I could improve, is buying less packaged items, as we still use a lot of plastic and buy unnecessary items. My transportation category was relatively high at 417kgs per year, however this could be improved if we try using public transport. But, sometimes it is hard to avoid using our car as we travel too far of a distance to walk to school and be there on time.
