My carbon footprint is 6.86. This is a lot more than the world average of 4.88. It turns out that America releases a lot more carbon in the air than a lot of other countries. This isn't surprising since a lot of people need to travel to get to work.

It surprised me that air conditioning and heating are two big carbon releasers. The good thing is that if you just don’t overheat your house or use a little less air conditioning it can make a big difference in the amount of energy used. It takes some sacrifices like being absolutely freezing in the morning to stop climate change.

Another big climate change starter is meat, specifically cows. If you didn’t know already, a lot of people in America eat cows ( though I am not one of them. ) Cows release a greenhouse gas, called methane into the air. Trees usually suck up unwanted carbon but we are cutting down too many trees and there aren’t enough to suck up so much carbon. Not to mention, all the energy it takes to power cars, factories, houses, lightbulbs, and more.

I try to save as much energy as I can, in the summer I usually don’t turn on the lights unless it is dark out, and if there is ever a power outage my family uses candles instead of a generator. Also if we ever make a bonfire we only cut wood from broken branches.

I believe that if humans take the little steps to stop climate change we  can all  make a big difference.
