Week 2 Activities


Task

  1. Principal Question and Tasks: What are our obligations as global citizens? What are the rights and responsibilities that we have?
    1. Pre-Activity (Discuss as a group)
      1. Work through the Power Flower Activity, link

  1. Week 2 Tasks: (Use Blogs again for this activity)
    1. Task 1: Write a “working charter” of global citizenship, rights and responsibilities. (Do not take more than 30 minutes for the activity. Identify 5 key Rights and Responsibilities.)
    2. Task 2a: (select either 2a or 2b)
      • Find examples of infringements on these rights: locally and globally. (Give an example of an obvious and not so obvious.)
      • Go through your fellow students' blogs and reflect on commonalities and differences. Were there any surprises?
      • Create a second Revised Blog, based on your reflection
    3. Task 2b: What are some of the struggles and conflicts people encounter in our claims of rights and the provision of rights? Look at three examples:
      1. Zero tolerance (Ontario)
      2. Indigenous (Attawapiskat - right to school)
      3. GSA
      4. Landrights vs. Economics
      5. Right to Free Education
      6. Choose your struggle

Make a recommendation for how best to ensure that all people have access to human rights. Make revisions to your working charter and reflect on your revisions.
