About Me

Hi, I am Sofía A high school Science teacher in Costa Rica.

Every day I wake up and it is still dark, even though I rely on electricity I don´t appreciate it until we get none. I drive a car to my job every day, wishing I could get an electric car so I can model more of what I talk; those are changes that we have to work on.

I live in a country that has great electricity coverage, and most of the population has access to it, our electricity comes from mostly renewable resources (wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric). Our transportation system is what is playing against us since most of the pollution comes from the fossil fuels used for it. This is an issue that as a country we are trying to address now. On the other hand, when we think about renewable resources, I also question the effects of some of them on the ecosystems and indigenous communities close to the power plants, it is complicated.

In the future, I would love to see my students generating new ideas, creating new technology that uses nature´s examples in the energy industry. I would love for education to become more sustainable oriented and young people willing to take more risks on behalf of their communities.
