Sustainable energy by wikipedia definition is "providing energy that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs".
I believe in modern times, there will need to be a balance between the economy and the environment with what method of renewable energy is used. As beneficial as it would be if we could use everything and anything to make our Earth the healthiest as quickly as we could, it's just not feesable.

My definition of sustainable energy is a type of energy source that is environmental friendly; so a source of energy that does not harm the environment or affect the wild life, Renewable; this way the energy can be sustained and be used over and over again while continuing to be environmental friendly, and low cost; so local residents can afford the costs attached to sustainable energy.

Sustainable energy is when the energy that is being used does not risk the quantity that will be available in the future. Meaning that we use the amount that we need and still have energy left for the future citizens who will need to use this resource. Also, this energy is often renewable source of energy such as hydroelectricity and the process of producing energy is done in a manner that does not affect the environment .

It seems like we all have an environmentally sustainable goals in mind here. What ZeynepO touched on leads into good questions for our definition though: 'this energy is often renewable source of energy such as hydroelectricity and the process of producing energy is done in a manner that does not affect the environment.'

Do we want to consider the oil-sands as completely unsustainable, because they will run out within a matter of decades? They cause widespread pollution, but we've learned that not any one method is perfect.

To clarify, do you feel there some potential for sustainability in the oil sands?
And if so to what end could we address that?

My definition of sustainable energy is not compromising the future generations in order to raise or economy but to balance both the economy and environment in order to keep all citizens healthy and are all financially stable.

In my view, sustainable energy means the use of energy that benefits humans eternally but also does not harm the environment and if possible, even benefits it. Examples of sustainable energy could be hydroelectric energy and solar power. These ways to produce energy will last for generations to come, not only for these times but for the future as well.

Sustainable energy is an energy source that can be used and retained for a lifetime. It is an energy source that is safe and clean even if it is renewed and reused continuously. Since sustainable energy does not deplete, the process of producing it involves reusing; converting the energy into another type of energy for different uses. For energy to be able to be considered sustainable, it should not be consumed all the time; renewing it must be a priority.

In my opinion, it is the ability to provide for the needs of the current population without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for themselves. When a system is sustainable, it can be carried out over and over without any negative environmental impacts.
