Today marks a very meaningful day...
OCTOBER 11, 2012 - THE UNITED NATIONS HAS DECLARED AS...
THE WORLD'S FIRST INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD
Girls throughout the world face higher rates of violence, poverty, discrimination.
There is a growing recognition around the world that support for girls and their basic human rights is key for healthy communities. Improving girls' lives has a ripple effect. What is good for them is good for all of us.
We'd love to hear what you have to say about International Day of the Girl Child! Weigh in and follow the conversation on Twitter with the hashtag #girlchild2012. We will also be using this hashtag to take questions for our guest speakers during this event. See you online!
Dear teachers and students,
We would like to extend a warm welcome to the International Day of the Girl Child video conference and classroom! This conference is possible through the partnership of the Centre for Global Education and TakingITGlobal. We are so excited to have you engage in this interactive virtual classroom space ahead of the October 9th live event.
Now that you've joined the classroom, begin by saying hello in the Discussions section and feel free to contribute discussion threads and responses freely over the coming days. It would also be great if you could complete your TIG profile to help everyone get to know you better. In the Assignments section, you will find all of the required and optional class activities. In the class Bookmarks section you can find additional resources to prepare yourself for participation in the video conference.
If you need assistance with the virtual classroom, e-mail education@takingitglobal.org for personalized help. If you have any further questions about this or any other Global Encounters video conference e-mail encounters@tiged.org.
We hope that you enjoy using this space to connect and share ahead of the International Day of the Girl Child live video conference! We look forward to getting to know you.
Warm regards,
~ The Global Encounters Team
