Climate Change

Oct 21, 2015 by wilderness-cwalsh

1.Based on the videos and your personal experiences/views, what are your views about Climate Change and the role of carbon?

My prior knowledge of this topic is limited, and only comes through the content that is shown through the media and in my classrooms. After researching and gathering sources of information, I am able to roughly formulate my basic opinion on the topic.

From my research I see that Climate change is an issue that needs to be urgently addressed before any more damage is caused. If the world continues, as it is the rising emission of green house gases will have caused the earths temperature to rise by around 0.02 degrees per year, a number that will increase. These rising in temperature are a harmful for the world but in particularly my home country of Australia. Right now in Australia the annual temperature is set to be 1.3 degrees higher by the year 2030 and if no action is taken there will be an annual temperature increase of 2.6 degrees by 2090.

The rising emissions of gases are not only killing humans but also are severely affecting the land space of Australia. The beautiful species and eco systems of Kangaroo Island and the Mount Lofty Ranges in South Australia are threated, as temperature are rising resulting in many more ‘serve fire’ days.

So although my knowledge on this topic is limited after researching and learning about the damage that is being caused to my hometown, I believe climate change needs to be fought now.

How carbon affects climate change?

After researching climate change and using my previous knowledge, I know that right now, of all the co2 that humans add to the environment, nature can only remove around half of it. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burnt.

2.What do you think needs to be done on a global scale, on a local scale and on a personal scale?

In order to tackle climate change the emissions from fossil fuel needs to be reduced. Globally, I believe leaders need to come together, set targets and be united on fighting climate change. If countries do commit, it will encourage and inspire more and more countries to follow suit.

On a personal and local scale there are a number of simple and effective measures that, if used can greatly help in the fight against climate change. These include using energy efficient products, Energy Conversation and switching fuel.
