Climate Change in My Backyard

Environment   Oct 16, 2015 by Barb Bilgre

Students in the Year 1 IB Environmental Systems and Societies class at Lincoln Community School, Ghana, created picture essays about how Ghanaians impact climate and how Ghana (people and environment) is impacted by climate change.

Some wonderful projects developed - some photo essays and others were images (digital or hand-drawn) that my students created.

Please peruse their vision of 'Climate Change in Our Backyard'.

Climate Change (Joseph, Salomon)

Air pollution: people in Ghana usually pollute the air by smoking which usually dimmer skies and this in turn affects the Ghanaian society by causing dying vegetation and dying vegetation means less food for the people of Ghana.

Burning fossil fuels: this is usually done by the people of Accra thereby affect climate and this in turn affects the people themselves by causing heavy rain.

Burning trash: burning trash is usually common among the people of Accra and this affects the climate conditions which eventually affects the people of Ghana by causing greenhouse effects when gases are released from the burning of trash.

Water pollution: The people of Ghana usually pollute water in the sea, ocean, stream or lake by dumping waste products and materials into the water and when the water is polluted there is a loss of wildlife.

Deforestation: Deforestation is the cutting down of trees and vegetation and this is common among the people of Accra. The cutting of the trees in turn leads to no habitat for wildlife animals and even people as well.
