Stay engaged! Be involved! Your voice matters!

Posted by Cameron Klapwyk on 21 Mar 2012

Hello students from coast to coast!

Today has really been a remarkable day.  I hope you have all thoroughly enoyed coming together to hear from our brilliant speakers as well to craft your inputs on the policy paper to be presented before the senate.

Surely many of you have been inspired and empowered by this process.  What you are doing matters, and what you think matters, regardless of what anybody might tell you.  Youth have the energy, the passion, and the critical insight to make a difference in their communities, in this country and in this world.

I hope you have come away from this process truly believing this.  I also hope this process has inspired you to continue to be more engaged with the world around you.

TakingITGlobal (tigweb.org), one of the partners that helped make this process possible, envisions a Canada and a world where youth are constantly and energetically engaged with local and global issues.  TIG provides a whole variety of resources and networks that you can use to continue be informed, inspired and learn how to get involved.

Below are some ideas.  Check them out!!

Important: Four Key Questions for Mar. 21st Conference

Posted by Cameron Klapwyk on 8 Mar 2012

Hello everyone,

This is an important reminder that everyone should be reflecting on what they have learned thus far in the various activities and meetings that have been held and contributing to the development of the four key questions that will be brought to the table during the March 21st video conference event.  Please add your input as to what questions should be considered and reflect upon and reply to the posts of others in the discussion section, under the thread entitled "four key questions for conference."

We need to make sure that we are adequately prepared for the collaborative meeting on the 21st so that not only can we asked informed questions of our incredible speakers, but also so that we are ready to join together to create a youth position paper on sustainable energy, to be presented before the Senate in April.

Thanks,
Cameron

Video Recording of March 6 meeting

Posted by Cameron Klapwyk on 6 Mar 2012

Hello everyone,

For those of you who missed the March 6 meeting, fear not, a recording of the session has been made.  At the beginning of the meeting, the schools present discussed the "economy" side of the energy debate, though we lacked the "environment" side to fully invigorate the discussion.  The last 20 minutes or so are particularly crucial to check out as they provide instructions about where we go from here in our prep.

You can find the recording at: http://livestre.am/1k4eo.  Be sure to complete the tasks for weeks two and three found in the assignments section as well as take a look at the discussions section where a dialogue has begun about the four major questions we want to bring to the big event on the 21st.

Thanks for all your hard work everyone.  We will see you next week!

Resources to help research local energy reality

Posted by Cameron Klapwyk on 28 Feb 2012

Hello everyone,

It is great to have so many of you registered in the virtual classroom.  As Terry mentioned, this project is really all about you the students, and your voice on Canada's energy strategy.  It is your wholehearted participation that will make this national project a success and really promote the legitimacy of the youth voice to the government.

In the bookmarks section, I have put up two resources from the Canadian Centre for Energy that might prove very helpful when looking at your local energy reality.  You should check them out!

Keep up the hard work, and we will see you all on Wednesday!

Cameron

Welcome to the National Virtual Town Hall!!

Posted by Terry Godwaldt on 27 Feb 2012

Welcome to the first full week of the National Virtual Town Hall on Sustainable Energy!

Congratulations at being a chosen member of the national leadership team!! You were chosen by your school to be a part of something that has never been done before. All the work we will do over the next six weeks will be on behalf of the youth of Canada and will be presented before the Senate Standing Committee on Sustainable Energy.

Now in order for this to really work, we need 100% buy in from everyone right across the country. Having your reading done and tasks completed is going to be essential to us bringing forward a unified, thoughtful and representative work.

I'm looking forward to working with you all and seeing the gtreat work that you are going to do.

Your fellow collaborator,

Mr G. (The Centre for Global Education)
