- What were the notable differences between your two countries in relation to climate change? What factors do you think influenced the differences?
India is directly affected by changes in the climate. In Sweden we don’t see the consequences of climate change in the same way in our everyday life.
India is a developing country with a lot of industries and has an economy based on agriculture. As a consequence to Sweden not being non-agricultural based economy, we are not dependent on the climate in the same way as India. Even if the weather changes a lot during the year it doesn’t affect really affect us in the short run. Our climate is also stable and our water supplies are sufficient, with well-developed water purification systems.
India has a lot of industries within the nation borders while Sweden is mostly importing the products we need from other countries. Therefore the amount of carbon dioxide that Sweden produces is more difficult to calculate since it’s spread out over the whole world while India has it’s carbon dioxide productions centered in their own country.
