How does the assigned UNFCCC theme relate to your country?
UNFCCC theme relates to Australia because if the temperature starts to rise as a result from climate change, Australia will start to see sea levels rising significantly, from the melting of polar ice capsules and the temperature of water increasing causing it to expand. By this happening it will endanger animals and aquatic life. When temperatures rise it results in less rainfall, causing more draughts to occur, putting humans, flora and fauna in danger.
How does it relate to your country pairing?
- The Philippines a country made of many small little islands located on north of Australia. With water temperatures rising it will cause El Nino to become more intense. El Nino occurs when the temperatures of the water in the southern pacific becomes abnormally warm. With the temperatures becoming abnormally with it will cause the sea surface to increase by 1-4 degrees and sea levels to increase significantly by 4-6 meters resulting in the rainfall to intensify, frequent monsoons, tropical cyclones and more floods. The warmer water also effects the PH levels to shift meaning there will be a increase of coral reef death.
What is the current state of this UNFCCC theme?
The current state of the UNFCCC theme is that Australia has recently gone through a drought. However Australia has also seen an increase in rainfall, clearing the drought. When Australia experienced the drought it dried up all the bushland making it more prone to bushfires. In south Australia in January in 2015 we experienced an extreme bushfire, which wiped out several homes and killed a number amount of animals.
What are your country’s future plans, and the implications?
The future plans for Australia, are to review Australia’s green house gas emission reduction targets for this year. Countries have agreed to propose a post 2020 emissions reduction target well in advanced of the Paris conference, which is taken, place this year at the end of November.
What strategies to combat climate change do you think are best/worst for your country?
In order for Australia to reduce climate change, Australia will need to reduce carbon pollution by at lest 25% by 2020 and at least 90% by 2050. Australia will also need to maintain a price on carbon to reduce carbon emissions and increase the Renewable Energy Target to 50% by 2030.

This is a very interesting and informative piece. I didn't know the relationship between El Nino effect and climate change and a quick research led me to this article:

Apparently the effects of El Nino are not limited to Australia or Philippines, but the effect is already visible in north America and Canada!
