Effects of Climate Change in Australia

Environment   Oct 28, 2015 by wilderness-eharvey

UNFCCC theme relates to Australia because as the temperatures in the air are rising as a result of climate change, the water level temperatures are also rising making the polar ice capsules melt causing the sea levels to rise. This will endanger animals and aquatic life. As temperatures are rising, it means less rainfall in the summer, causing droughts, which is dangerous for humans, flora and fauna. The Philippines is only a bunch of small islands, which are low lying on the water surface. As the sea levels are rising in Australia, it will slowly start to rise over the islands of the Philippines causing natural disasters. The warm waters cause El Ninos where the southern pacific will experience abnormally warm waters. The El Ninos will become much more intense and will cause storms to become highly unpredictable and weather will have extreme high and low levels. The Philippines coral reef life will die because of the shift in the pH levels, tropical cyclones will intensify and the sea levels will rise by 4-6m causing floods and monsoon rainfalls.

The current state of the UNFCCC theme is that Australia recently went through a drought but there was high rainfall during the year clearing the drought. During this time of drought there was little water in the rivers and no rainfall causing all the bushland to dry up making it more prone to bushfires. South Australia experienced an extreme bushfire in January 2015, which wiped away many homes, animals and land all due to the climate change of Australia. The future plans for Australia are to review Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets for this year. Countries have agreed to propose a post-2020 emissions reduction target well in advance of the Paris conference. In order for Australia to reduce climate change, they need to reduce their carbon pollution by at least 25% by 2020 and at least 90% by 2050. They also need to maintain a price on carbon to reduce emissions and increase the Renewable Energy Target to 50% by 2030.
