This topic relates to our country as our government often clashes with First Nations in regards to the environment and land use. As an example, currently a Company called BC Hydro (British Colombian Hydro) is attempting to build a hydro-electric plant, this plant if built will destroy a valley that is valued by the First nations as hallowed ground. In first nation society hallowed ground isn't common as most of the dead are simply buried in trees and raised platforms making areas considered "hallowed" exceedingly rare and special. Many First nations in the area are protesting this new addition due to it's significance to their culture and history. This location was where one of the first fur trading forts was set up. Furthermore, significant numbers of the local first nations have buried dead relatives there. Moreover there are an estimated 300 gathering sites and camp grounds in the damage zone. BC hydro has promised to mitigate as much damage as possible.
