Interactive Simulation Response

Environment   Sep 24, 2015 by Leah Buchanan

How do these simulations relate to your community? Do any of them feel irrelevant to your context?

These simulations inform us of our effect on the environment due to our actions, and lifestyles. Communities are often good representers of population, because often they are diverse, with different numbers of people living at any one home, transportation mode, and production of garbage and recycling, etc. I believe these simulations are highly relevant and give us an opportunity to step back and observe our effect on our environment, our community, and our world.

How do these simulations help you (or not help you) find your place in combatting climate change?

These simulations, The Ecological Footprint Calculator especially, give us an idea of the damage we do to our world. I think that knowing the magnitude of the damage is what most helps us to repair the destruction. Understanding your actions' consequences helps us build a more sustainable world.

Have these simulations changed how you think climate change should be tackled?

No, mainly because I whole-heartedly believe in understanding the magnitude of our actions. These simulations give us an understanding of the repercussions we could be facing in the not so far future. Climate Change should be tackled in any way possible, if some people do it different ways, who can complain that they are making a difference!

Yes, I agree. I think These simulations teach us and show us what effect we have on our environment, and which areas we can improve on. It helps us know how it effects our local community and our whole world.

I agree with your post, and that our actions can make a big difference without us even realizing. I feel that many people don't realize the magnitude of their actions individually, and this exercise can help to spread awareness for individual impact on climate.
