how will we get there? will we kill off the 6.5 billion others? Or do you have something else in mind?
Hi Julen,
On the bright side, the population growth is declining so we are not going to get exponentially bigger forever. The global population is expected to peak at 10 billion, which is 3 billion more than our current population of 7 billion. That doesn't sound like the end of the world to me if we all make an effort. You might feel that what you're doing is not going to make a big difference, but we must not forget that a lot of important changes and scientific discoveries in history came about because one person thought outside the box and began to slowly shift the way everybody else thought. Furthermore, if we act collectively, we hold much more power and we are more likely to accomplish something. :)
Interesting point Julen! The world population is definitely one of the most important factors in present economic and environmental situation. But with simple calculations we can show that the amount of resources and wealth in the world is enough for everybody to have a high standard of life, the problem is that these resources are not distributed evenly. One of the things we can do to move towards a better planet for everyone (regardless of how many people) is to focus on more local sources of energy like solar, wind, etc... and depend less on fossil fuels or nuclear energy. This ultimately will affect the climate situation too.
