The CSIRO, Australia's peak scientific body, has released a report detailing the views of Australians in relation to climate change. 78% of respondents believed that Climate change was occurring whilst 45.9% believed that human activity was responsible. A large percentage also believed that climate change was only due to natural variation. The report also indicates that community engagement is very low. Although many take part in recycling and switching unneeded lights off, a minority claimed that this was due to environmental reasons. For many of these practices, I suspect the the driving force behind them may be money - switching lights off costs us less and therefore we do it. Greater awareness needs to be created to inform the public however, it would be interesting to first compare this data with others around the globe.
