The article ‘Climate change will hit Australia harder than the rest of the world’ discusses the issue of how climate change is resulting in a drastic temperature change. By 2090 it is expected that Australia will experience an increase in temperature between 2.8 and 5.1 degrees Celsius. Surprisingly Australia’s surface temperature has already significantly increased since 1910 by 0.9 degrees Celsius. This article explains that this is because of where Australia is located. It is expected that land areas will warm faster than ocean areas and Polar Regions faster than tropics. However, it is not just the environment that will be impacted. Kevin Hennessy, a principal research scientist at the CSIRO says Australia should prepare for this altered climate by ensuring hospitals, transport infrastructure, construction codes and fire planning all considered the rising temperatures. It is unbelievable to think that Australia will be affected more than the rest of the world; it just goes to show how substantial this issue is. Especially, because Australia contributes largely to climate change it is our responsibility to do something about it. The fact that Australia is also a wealthy country also contributes to the amount of carbon pollution that we produce.
