Ecological footprint game.
The first time I played this game was last year in 2014, and my footprint was a shock to my system and my lifestyle. It was nowhere near my city’s or country’s average, but it was much higher than I had initially expected.
I then decided to try and change a few things to see if my footprint would decrease.
After playing the game for the second time since last year, I am surprised to see that my footprint increased. Once again it was not as high as the city’s or national’s average, but it was still high. I went back to see why that was, and after changing the answers for the multiple questions, I was able to conclude that the number of people in your family is a very big contributing factor to your ecological footprint. The more members in your family, the higher your footprint is. Despite this though, the whole activity is such a wonderful resource. It is such an amazing thing to have because it acts as a cold bucket of water that wakes you up, and really makes you see the facts and effects of your lifestyle in a very “real” way.
It is going to be hard finding anything to cut down so my footprint will decrease. I just have a big family, but I am still going to try my challenge again. Maybe next year it will be lower.
If anyone cares to try the challenge, it involves:
- Take public transport instead of your car
- Try to only buy locally grown food
- Don’t buy consumer products as often possible (especially those that are imported)
- Recycle
Good luck to anyone who wants to try!
