Group 3 Simulation Disscusion

How do these simulations relate to your community? Do any of them feel irrelevant to your context?

The ecological footprint simulator related to my community as it showed me the impact my community and I made on the world. It showed the percentage of everyday activities you do, such as the food we eat and our transportation methods, and how they ultimately impacted the world. This simulation was relevant to our context, because it is clearly related to globalization and how we and our community could reduce our ecological footprint. Globalization is related to our ecological footprint, because all the products we’ve used in our daily lives have been transported to us in a way that increases the ecological footprint you and your community makes.

In the president simulator, the strategy cards are related to our community because the cards were all things we used and did in our community, such as water export, and extending the retirement age. Extending the retirement age and decreasing the pension is something that happened all throughout Canada. However in reality, one person does not make all the decisions so it did not really feel relevant to us. These decisions are made amongst many people over a long period of time.

How do these simulations help you (or not help you) find your place in combatting climate change?

Knowing your ecological footprint helps you decide how you can reduce and change your habits for the better. This will help us combat climate change because if one person can make a change, then it can turn into a ripple effect, that can spread to others, so they can reduce their ecological footprint as well.

Have these simulations changed how you think climate change should be tackled?

These simulations have shed light on how we can fix the problem, but did not really change our opinion on how climate change should be tackled. However, the simulation did broaden our mindset on how we could address the issue and then attack it to enforce change. This is why we think governments should encourage people to buy local foods and reduce how much electricity and water you use.

I agree entirely with the points you made. I especially like the idea of the ripple effect.

I agree with your point of view. The simulations really broadened my mindset as to what solutions are possible as well. I believe that the ripple effect is true, especially if someone well-known does it because then, everyone will want to be like the person and do what the person does. However, as much as I agree with what you suggest the governments do, I feel that it may be difficult to do what is in the list because it is hard for people to keep track of them.
